FROM THE SECRETARY GENERAL
Dear
Friends,
 On
behalf of the Secretariat of Istanbul International Model
United Nations Conference from T.C. Istanbul University,
Faculty of Law and the co-hosting team from T.C. Maltepe
University, it is my pleasure to invite you to Istanbul
International Model United Nations.
This year, the conference will be held in T.C. Maltepe
University from July 23rd to July 27th,
2007.
IIMUN 2007
aims to expand the cultural empathy and unite students from
different nations, while they attain knowledge about the
current international affairs. The cosmopolitan atmosphere of
Istanbul will help to achieve this aim. IIMUN conference will
also have a unique characteristic: it will be a conference
held in two continents.
The
conference will have the basic properties of MUN conferences:
the structure, the rules of procedure and the agenda will
resemble the United Nations original ones. Positions of the
secretariat, delegations and chairmen will be held by
students. There will be 5 committees in session and 5 social
events.
Other than
these MUN characteristics, IIMUN will give the opportunity of
touring a city of 2,500 years of history. Located in the
center of the Ancient World, Istanbul is one of the worlds
greatest cities famous for its historical monuments and
magnificent scenic beauties. It is the only city in the world
which spreads over two continents: it lies at a point where
Asia and Europe are separated by a narrow strait the
Bosporus. Istanbul has a history of over 2,500 years, and ever
since its establishment on this strategic junction of lands
and seas, the city has been a crucial trade center.
It is often
said that Model United Nations simulations brings together
tomorrows leadersand it is my sincere hope that the 2007
edition of the Istanbul International Model United Nations
will remain a significant point in the lives of all our
delegates.
During the
conference respected guest speakers will give lectures in the
committees concerning the issues they are debating on. The
opening and closing ceremonies will also be strengthening with
some appreciated speakers and Turkish Press.
